Drew M. Barkett oversees the Retail Development and Real Estate division for Strategic Retail Development, a company focused on leasing and acquiring regional malls, hybrid regional shopping centers, lifestyle centers and power centers. Strategic Retail Development is a company which understands from start to finish the complete retail experience from the developer’s point of view as well as the retailer’s prospective. Headed by Drew M. Barkett, the former president of Turnberry’s retail division, and John Aiello also of SRD, the company is made up of a group of talented and experienced professionals with years of knowledge in retail development. Mr. Barkett’s 19 years in the retail world has established relationships which have enabled him to amass a gross revenue of over a $1billion dollars combined in either leasing and development projects. He continues to focus on new way to expand his horizons so he can further the revenue growth for SRD and its partners for years to come. Prior to SRD, Mr. Barkett held the role of President at Turnberry Associates headquartered in Aventura Florida. While at Turnberry he was given the opportunity to take lead on development/leasing of projects such as Destin Commons, Town Square Las Vegas, Nordstrom expansion at Aventura Mall, all new retail developments and as well as upgrading existing properties through tenant mix, and repositioning of existing assets. Also Mr. Barkett held a top position as Vice President at DeBartolo Entertainment (formerly the DeBartolo Corporation). This role encompassed a vast array of duties including layouts for entertainment retail, strategic business alliances, leasing, partnership representation and as well as retail developments with gaming as a main part of the projects. This experience help round out Mr. Barkett’s background in aspects of retail from tradition malls to entertainment retail, lifestyle centers and of course the gaming involvement with retail projects. Lastly The Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation was the start of Mr. Barkett career in the shopping center business. He was actively involved in leasing existing DeBartolo Malls, as well as expansions, and even ground up mall development in most of the states Debartolo held assets. Mr. Barkett was consistently in the top five salesman and even gained the top position three years running as “Top Salesman.” The effort in leasing was the start in a career which has lasted well over two decades of productive growth on an individual scale and for the companies he associated himself with as well. The vast background has enabled Mr. Barkett to create long running relationships with lenders, developers, and most importantly, the many retailers he has done business with, and this continues today. A graduate of Youngstown State University, Barkett resides in South Florida with his wife and his two children.
